The great liberation through hearing heavy metal: “The Murk Rider” EP is California heavy metal band Murk Rider’s (ft. members of At Dusk, Malfet, etc) second release, following up their 2019 summer album “Exile of Shadows”.
“The Murk Rider” EP serves as a mission statement, succinctly outlining the band’s philosophical thesis of exploring personal stories of challenge, fear, struggle, and beauty, all clothed in the universal language of myth and symbolism. Mental, spiritual, and emotional heaviness prevail. The ritualized theater of Murk Rider’s music aims to serve as a means to help people make peace with their demons and emerge stronger, happier, healthier, and more whole: like the rainbow in the dark, Murk Rider is a celebration of finding love within oneself, and within the magical power of music.
“The Murk Rider” EP contains a mix of new and archival material, spotlighting some of the band’s strongest songwriting thus far while simultaneously branching out to explore an essential heavy metal cover in Uriah Heep’s “Rainbow Demon”, hallucinatory industrial sound collages, an homage to classic black metal (Sodom), and cosmic ‘80s tangerine dreamscapes.
