about

We Are the River is the 80-minute melodic and atmospheric blackened culmination of 3 years of the worst depression and mental illness of my life, and the subsequent recovery and triumph grown anew from the ashes of my past self - by way of therapy, friendship, and my internal reconciliation and acceptance of being a transgender individual and my true authentic self. Side A - Blue - contains 4 tracks written in 2018 at my lowest, teetering at the point of no return, and Side B - Pink - contains 6 tracks written 2 years later, after I had learned to love myself and others, and had returned to a new and brighter life. These tracks all tell my story, but in truth, they tell the story of many of us. And the story shall continue, evermore. Remember that you are loved, and you will be okay. We are the river. This album is and will always be dedicated to Samuel Henry Sylvester, who passed away on 5/23/23. Sam's photography has contributed to this album's J-card and original album cover with his family's permission.

At long last, a physical version of We Are the River has come to life.

In the time since its initial release, I've experienced even more soaring apexes and crushing nadirs, though none greater than the loss of my dear friend Sam Sylvester, who passed on May 23rd, 2023. A few years ago, he was on a conservation mission in Orr, MN when he took the photo that would become the cover for this album.

He had taken other photos from that same excursion and posted them online, and I always felt they would be a perfect addition to an eventual physical release of this record. So I've subsequently taken those and integrated them throughout the J-card of this tape, with his family's permission, as well as a small but significant memorial panel for Sam, as he was truly a dear friend whose spirit is eternally intertwined with this album.

Since its inception in 2016, Morke has always been a way for me to express the feelings and ruminations that cannot be accurately told with words alone. We Are the River is the shining example of this, and a monumental record that I at one point thought would never be complete. These songs all tell my story, but in truth, they tell the story of many of us. I hope that if they resonate with you, you hold them as motivation, representation, or an assurance that you are not alone and your story is worth telling. And the story shall continue, evermore.

Take care and be good to people. Remember that you are loved, and you will be okay. We are the river.
