"It’s April 25th when it’s not too hot and not too cold and all you need is a light jacket, so the perfect date. Really a perfect date to also sit and enjoy some good music that the gods of rock and roll foretold is about. They long ago once heard a boy making music and told him “I’m going to rip you off” and since that day black metal and crust punk have been living in harmony with one another. Trading off and borrowing from each other to the point where it can be difficult to see where black metal ends and crust punk begins. Today’s upload, the UK’s own Mortsafe, has studied this long tradition and giving their latest offering, Mournography, up for us to enjoy. A quick but furious 4 song EP, Mortsafe will have you blackening your clothes and patching your pants by the end of it. Ever the student of both genres, they start off Vile with an instrument moment that quickly becomes a wildfire that spreads and leaves nothing alive in its path. While Mournography is grounded in crust punk there are moments where it expands into the territory of the avant-garde taking some cue from the masters themselves, Celtic Frost/Tryptikon.
