On August 11, Fiadh is thrilled to be releasing the self-titled debut from atmospheric black metal project @earthen.altar:
“Earthen Altar is the creation of Evelyn Holland and Hazel Henry. Inspired by the contemporary tradition of Cascadian Metal, this sonic offering is the culmination of nearly two years of writing, recording, mixing, and collective evolution of our two selves. Created on the traditional lands of the Clackamas, Cascades, Stl’pulmsh, Cayuse, Umatilla, Walla Walla, and the Confederated tribes of Siletz and Grand Ronde, Earthen Altar is an ode to the spirits of the landscape and creative energies of the Pacific Northwest that brought us both to live here. We wish to honor the peoples, both human and non-human, that have come before us on these lands and in our journeys of reconnection. Through the exploration and repurposing of archaic myth, this album attempts to explore the queer, transgender, and feminine aspects of the nature around us, the cycles of creation, destruction, and the act of becoming.”
This is not only a fantastic album, but a celebration of a new era of Cascadian black metal that is not confined to a specific group of people or values, instead opening up the genre to new voices & reinvigorating its original appreciation of nature 🌲
