Parabstruse is an early project of Garry Brents (Gonemage, Homeskin, Cara Neir, Sallow Moth, Lev'myr -
lilangisla.bandcamp.com) that was ahead of its time.
"I’d never think I’d find the time and roughly the source material to bring this music back. While my approach was raw and still naïve with production and songwriting, it was a crucial part of my early years of making music, where I’ve always been looking to experiment and blend different styles together. Parts of this demo still ring through the music I’ve made over the years since then."
Material comprises Parabstruse's 'Demo 2007' and two unreleased songs as bonus tracks written from the same year.
"At the time, I was heavily enamored with the thought of combining post-rock and black metal, particularly melancholic 2nd wave and the early 2000's rise of USBM and French BM. Some of my influences back then on this were Mono, Ulver, Labradford, GYBE, Mogwai, Eikenskaden, Mystic Forest, Blut Aus Nord, Fleurety, Strid, Grails, Ef. Pretty much any post-rock gaining steam on
afterthepostrock.com (now defunct) during that era.
This music exclusively saw exposure on MySpace and Soulseek only. It is essentially all demo material with a little bit of 'remastering' touches -- as best as I could do with the stereo mix of these files and without the original multitracks in my possession. Overall, it was a blend that was still very rough around the edges but perhaps followers of this style and community may find it as an intriguing hidden link to this since-popularized idea. Enjoy."
